Farewell To Bea Arthur...May 13, 1922 – April 25, 2009

Over the weekend, actress Beatrice Arthur passed away after a long battle with cancer. Bea was best know to many as Maude Finley, the opposite of Archie Bunker of 'All In The Family'.

After several appearences, she was soon cast in her own show 'Maude'. After 'Maude' ended, she starred in a short lived television series 'Amanda's' about a retired woman who tries to run a hotel. The series was similar to John Cleese's 'Fawlty Towers', but it failed to get an audience.

One year after 'Amanda's' was cancelled, she reunited with her 'Maude' co-star Rue McClanahan to star as Dorothy Patrillo Zbornak in 'The Golden Girls'. The show's cast included Betty White as Rose and Estelle Getty as Dorothy's mother Sophia. Estelle Getty died last summer from Alzhimier's.

Bea also performed on Broadway as Vera Charles in the stage musical of Mame. She recreated the role in the movie version starring alongside Lucille Ball in 1974.

In later life, she has guest starred in may shows, and was a tireless advocate for Animal Rights.

In a phone interview with co-star Rue McClanahan, Bea's last wishes was for a private memorial for family and friends.

Bea leaves behind two adopted sons, Matthew and Daniel from her second marraige.

Thank you Bea for being the trailblazer we needed during the tough times.
