Good Bye Ed, Farrah, & Michael

It has taken a while for me to get around to writing this. Three people I have admired over the years have all passed away within a span of three days.

Ed McMahon died this past Tuesday. I will always remember him introducing Johnny Carson and being his nightly sidekick as well as co hosting Bloopers with Dick Clark and the man who showed up at your door as the American Family Publishers spokesman who presented you with a Million Dollar Prize.

Farrah Fawcett passed away Thursday morning. She was a fellow Texan and she lived proud. I'll always remember her as Jill from Charlie's Angels as well as the battered wife in 'The Burning Bed'. In 1993, she came home to Corpus Christi to chair a fundraiser and telethon for a new battered women's shelter. A local station pre-empted their line-up to show the aforementioned movie. I lived in Corpus at the time and happily phoned in a 20 dollar donation.

I had kind of expected Ed and Farrah's passing, but waking up to the news of Michael Jackson death threw me for a loop. Buzz about his death was hard for me to take. I grew up with his music from when he was with his brothers in the Jackson Five to dancing to his solo hits at prom and homecoming and catching his first MTV video of Billy Jean. The jury on Michael is still out, but despite his behavior and his misdeeds, he is still popular.

My heart goes out to the families of Ed, Farrah, and Michael. May they all Rest In Final Peace.

Stay Thonged.
